[Life: List’d] Best Damn Bloody Mary-thon
For years I have been wanting to do a Bloody Mary-thon, criss crossing around the city in search of the best bloody mary (and the worst hangover). Hopefully this will be the year I can convince my friends to come along.
I’ve been compiling a list throughout my tenure, some I have, some I haven’t. So far my list includes:
- King Cole at the Saint Regis: many people believe the Bloody Mary was invented here (originally called the Red Snapper), $18 a pop
- Prune: they have an entire menu devoted to them
- Pravda: basic w/a plethora of vodka options
- Alias: crustacean w/old bay, shrimp and a double shot of vodka (hairy mary)
- Jane: standard, solid, smooth
- 7A: so damn cheap
- J.G. Melon: with beef consumme
- Char No. 4: spicy style
- Superfine: the perfect thickness
- Oak Room at the Plaza Hotel: with a boiled shrimp & an olive
- Gramercy Tavern: a smooth classic
- Great Jones Cafe: cajun style w/tequila
- Pastis: with bloody bull
- Ed’s Lobster bar: with an oyster
- Odeon: plain & simple, no extra garnish
- Bemelman’s at the Carlyle - apparently they have their own special mixer
- Spotted Pig - shave their own horseradish + awesome pickles (added via the lovely Emily)
- Five Points - Clam Juice Bloody (added via the lovely Nora Leah)
- Clover Club - Barmen’s Bloody, rye whiskey, Fernet-Branca, basil (added via the lovely Nora Leah)
- Lodge - comes highly recommended by Kevin
- Hugs - also in brooklyn, also recommended by Kevin
I’m sure this list is far from complete. So chime in and I’ll keep updating it. I’d love to know what you think is missing?
