Like Mary has written about chronicling the experience of being knocked off, knock offs are an increasing problem, disgusting, and should be illegal.
Anytime I’ve been close to Canal Street, I’ve gotten pretty sick to my stomach. I can’t understand the throngs that get sucked into the Canal. It seems so sad to me that all of these tourists flock from middle america where they willingly and with pleasure buy tons of fake things that A) do not generally contribute to our economy B) cause HUGE losses for designers who are trying to protect their interests C) have no regard for the integrity and talent of the originator. I find this behavior appalling.
According to The New York Post, Stuart Weitzman is taking JC Penney to court over one of his shoes (pictured)….CLEARLY a copy.
The cases reflect successful designers’ growing discontent with retailers - and recent wins in court against low-price stores like Forever 21 and H&M. Now the designing Davids are going after the department-store Goliaths like Target, JC Penney and Sears.
“I have to defend my work,” Weitzman told The Post. “Our customers get a lot of success out of our shoes. They almost feel that it’s our obligation to protect them for spending their money on our products.”
