adventures of mascarah.

I've just begun a new decade. Sigh.

I have always wanted to be "a writer" but I'm lost somewhere in the prologue...whittling away at a story I may never tell.

Likes: pop culture. my chihuahua. architecture. modern art. elizabeth street. contemporary designer apparel. food. travel. foreign films. speakeasys. live music. politics. hot sauce. surprises. running in the rain. strangers. wednesdays. fearlessness...and 100s of other random things... maybe even you.

A southerner by birth, northerner by the grace of God, I'm simply a nyc gal who is lost somewhere on my constant exploration of the city and the life, love, and pursuit found within it.

Still need to watch this. Who wants to go? Am I going to be disappointed having already read the novel and loved it?

Also, I’m trying to decide which Ian McEwan work to read next. Amsterdam or Enduring Love? Or something else? I’ve already read Saturday. Trying to go for something that isn’t/hasn’t been adapted to film, because then I’ll pretty much feel obligated to watch the movie.

Mr. McEwan’s my favorite living author and, as a matter of fact, a gentleman. I interviewed him for The Dubliner, an Irish mag, a couple years back, when Saturday came out.

So which to read next? ‘Tis a toughie. Amsterdam is more literary, subtle yet startling plot devices as always; Enduring Love is chilling, page-turning —- although, hate to break it, it’s been made into a movie. Far inferior to book, btw.

Have you read his latest, On Chesil Beach? Slim and potent as a greyhound.

And do see Atonement. It’s true blue to the novel, except far prettier (their country home is meant to be ugly in novel; this casts a different tone, I think, but the movie is so lovely to look at, the estate so exquisite, Miss Knightley’s cheekbones so astonishing that the aestetic mimics Mr. McEwan’s prose; balances the film/novel.)

Noraleah—agree on your McEwan redux. He’s the best. I love him.  So lucky to have interviewed him!
