This piece, originally believed to be done by Banksy, is now believed to be done by Nick Walker, who is kind of like the poor man’s Banksy, living under his shadow and commanding far less dinero.
Walker decorated the Sullivan St. facing wall of restaurant Thunder Jackson located on Bleeker in the West Village. In addition to three characters of a man walking with an umbrella, he also added “Vandal” and “NW.”
There is speculation that Banksy, who is so far anonymous to those outside of his ‘inner circle’ IS Nick Walker.
A waitress from Jackson’s confirmed to Animal NY that it was indeed Banksy, not Walker, who tagged their building, saying that he’s friends with one of the guys involved with the bar. She also noted that he was originally scheduled to paint the wall on Wednesday night but someone stole a bunch of his supplies.
What?? I don’t think Nick Walker = Banksy. But it certainly would all make a great film. What a mind-fuck.
