adventures of mascarah.

I've just begun a new decade. Sigh.

I have always wanted to be "a writer" but I'm lost somewhere in the prologue...whittling away at a story I may never tell.

Likes: pop culture. my chihuahua. architecture. modern art. elizabeth street. contemporary designer apparel. food. travel. foreign films. speakeasys. live music. politics. hot sauce. surprises. running in the rain. strangers. wednesdays. fearlessness...and 100s of other random things... maybe even you.

A southerner by birth, northerner by the grace of God, I'm simply a nyc gal who is lost somewhere on my constant exploration of the city and the life, love, and pursuit found within it.

So Josh and I just finished dinner at Blue Ribbon (West Village) where we sat next (and way too close to) these two African American men who spent their entire meal and six Glenlivets talking about almost every race and ethnicity. The general consensus: we are all inferior.

They had countless “reasons” that they recounted for our listening pleasure, justifying to each other that they were right for hating Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Chinese, Dominicans, Cubans, Jews, Blacks from below the Mason Dixon,etc..etc..

Where did they say they learned all of these “facts” ? The US Army…where they are Lieutenants.

The irony was the ignorance that they were perpetuating is the perception that so many have about us “war hungry” Americans. Such a sense of entitlement and superiority. At least that is what the nice couple on the right of us from Paris said. They couldn’t believe what these men said, I wish that to me it was as surprising.
