adventures of mascarah.

I've just begun a new decade. Sigh.

I have always wanted to be "a writer" but I'm lost somewhere in the prologue...whittling away at a story I may never tell.

Likes: pop culture. my chihuahua. architecture. modern art. elizabeth street. contemporary designer apparel. food. travel. foreign films. speakeasys. live music. politics. hot sauce. surprises. running in the rain. strangers. wednesdays. fearlessness...and 100s of other random things... maybe even you.

A southerner by birth, northerner by the grace of God, I'm simply a nyc gal who is lost somewhere on my constant exploration of the city and the life, love, and pursuit found within it.

If you are so inclined... sap {at} lifelovepursuit.com

Banksy just opened a crazy pop-up store/installation called the “Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill.” It’s located at 89 7th Avenue between West 4th and Bleeker Street, and is open every day from 10-midnight through October 31st. I can’t wait to check it out. [via]

I just went in on my way to work….It is interesting borderline somewhat disturbing in parts (the hot dogs are a bit odd, and even more odd, the nuggets are kind of cute, as is the Bunny who has Essie nailpolish and obviously great taste ;)). It reminds me of the HBO show Carnivale for some reason. Either way, I love it. How can one not? Banksy is the man.
The statement he is trying to make gets a bit lost in the absurdity of most of it, but maybe the exaggeration makes a further impact for some, I am far from an “art” expert, so I’ll look forward to reading your thoughts.
There was already a swarm outside when I went in, several camera crews, tons of hipsters. It is slightly annoying that the West Village continues to inch closer and closer to becoming a full feldged tourist trap around Bleecker street, but maybe that is part of the irony of it all.
Note: It is next door to the shit-show Jekyll & Hyde, so if you check it out the exhibit, do NOT have a drink there afterwards, head to Barrow St Pub or Fat Cat instead.
