adventures of mascarah.

I've just begun a new decade. Sigh.

I have always wanted to be "a writer" but I'm lost somewhere in the prologue...whittling away at a story I may never tell.

Likes: pop culture. my chihuahua. architecture. modern art. elizabeth street. contemporary designer apparel. food. travel. foreign films. speakeasys. live music. politics. hot sauce. surprises. running in the rain. strangers. wednesdays. fearlessness...and 100s of other random things... maybe even you.

A southerner by birth, northerner by the grace of God, I'm simply a nyc gal who is lost somewhere on my constant exploration of the city and the life, love, and pursuit found within it.

Here we go…

  • Food, food, food.
  • Benjamin Buttons: Good. Long. Good. Predictable. Good.
  • Slumdog Millionaire: Good. I wish this one hadn’t been hyped to me as much as it was. I think because of that it let me down.
  • Doubt: Loved. LOVED. Amy Adams is my new girl crush.
  • Revolutionary Road: LOVED!! My favorite of the lot. THIS is why I am terrified of marriage. There are so many modern versions of this scenario.
  • Marley & Me: I just can’t like Jennifer Aniston. The book was so much better.
  • One of my favorite hometown men has moved back into the LES a few blocks from me. YAY!
  • There are one or two people who YEARS later I just can’t bring myself to really like.
  • People in NC do have babies in bars, quite often. Sometimes with them on one arm and a cigarette in the other hand. It is quite a phenomenon.
  • That being said, Asheville is not a redneck town. I often forget how amazing it is. I am lucky to have spent any of my childhood there.
  • The Biltmore Estate is magical.
  • A good hike provides the perfect backdrop for thinking.
  • I ran into the one who got away, at 4 a.m. on a street corner. It was raining. His smile still gives me butterflies. I’m not quite sure I’ll ever be over him completely.
  • He now plays for the Braves. And has a hot girlfriend.  And so it goes…
